Bataan Memorial Death March
White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico is the host of the 32nd Annual Bataan Memorial Death March on the weekend of 21 March 2021.
The purpose of this march is to honor and remember this special group of heroes who were forced to march as P.O.W.s in 1942 under the worst of conditions.
You can choose from two routes that are offered:
The 14.2-mile (Honorary) route which is essentially the lower portion of the 26.2 mile course. The course is the same for the first 3 miles but then proceeds South from Water Point 3/9 along the paved road. Then the course veers west along dirt and sand trails, coming up the backside of the White Sands community then turning to the finish line. No teams are allowed to register for Honorary Route.
The 26.2-mile course, which proceeds North from Water Point 3/9 fallowing the paved road to Water Point 4/8. The Course then proceeds Northwest along the paved road to Water Point 5, the course then veers West to a dirt trail circling a small mountain known as Mineral Hill. Returning to Water Station 4/8, marchers travel South along the paved road covered earlier in the route. The course then veers West along dirt and sand trails, coming up the backside of the White Sands community and returning to the finish line.
